Loyal Guard Kennels

Health and Athleticism at its best

RicAli's Bruno is officially retired from competition but we wanted to dedicate this page to him.

Why we weight pull

The protection and weight pull training are some of the methods we use to evaluate our breeding stock. Protection training shows me how stable and trustworthy my dog is. The weight pull training shows me not only their strength and endurance but also their willingness to work for their owner and their heat tolerance. All of these attributes are desirable in a family pet as well as a working dog. At the end of the day even a working dog should be able to relax and live as a safe reliable family pet. Our goal is to evaluate all of our breeding stock in every way possible it does not stop with the weight pull and Protection training but we also X-ray our breeding stock and pay close attention to their structure.

Regardless if the Loyal Guard breeding stock is a Leavitt Bulldog, Olde English Bulldogge, Bandog or even one of our few Pitbulls we will test work and evaluate it in every way possible to ensure we are producing the best possible dogs. We even have an English Mastiff named Ceasar that we had to special order a weight pull harness for so we could work with and evaluate further.

Most of our weight pull and protection training is done at the South Louisiana Performance Dog Club.

Here is an old video of one of the methods we use to condition our dogs in weight pull. You should never push a young dog in weight pull, dogs under 18 months old should never strain or dig in when pulling.

Here is a video of Adam one of our Olde English Bulldogges and Bruno our primary Leavitt Bulldog stud, taking First and Second place in a weight pull competition.
